MG1-688432: A Peculiar Variable System

The short period variable star MG1-688432 has been discovered to exhibit occasional extremely high energy optical outbursts as 10^31 joules. Outbursts are typically of several hours duration. These events often highly structured, resembling sequential associated releases energy. Twenty years time sequence photometry is presented, indicating a basic sinusoidal light curve mean 6.65d, with some phase shifting and long-term temporal trends in amplitude brightness. Spectroscopy reveals peculiar star, best K3 subgiant that evolved off the main moderately red-ward giant branch. Spectroscopic radial velocity analyses indicate binary system orbiting its barycenter an unseen companion K3IV primary. This not eclipsing inclination orbit precluding eclipse by secondary. at distance 1.5kpc analysis GAIA observations leads conclusion HR diagram position established intrinsic feature system, most likely either stellar evolutionary state observed or presence small (non-gray) dust within system. Two mechanisms might give rise 1) impacts tidally disrupted planetary debris, 2) magnetically induced chromospheric activity. An intriguing idea requires further investigation suggests perhaps white dwarf which encountered planet shredded it produce debris veil modulates brightness
